Worked as staff for Software Magazine from 1997-1999 during which time I won the Neal award by the American Business Press for best individual feature for my 7,000-word sentinel feature, “Hackers, Terrorists and Spies.” Launched a, “Hack of the month” column for Computerworld in 1999, which ran until 2001. Interviewed victims, politicians, businessmen, hackers, and built relationships with top cyber-crime investigators and security experts at the National Security Agency, Secret Service, FBI, FTC, Customs, New York Police Department, the Army’s Criminal Investigative Command and other military three-letter military agencies. Learned to do some of my own Internet investigating and computer forensics, and to use hacking tools and desktop security tools.
